Recently, my colleague was preparing to throw away an unfinished snack. Their snack, which had become very stale due to it being left out and open in the heat for nearly 8 hours, was then offered to me.
I responded, "Of course not! Why would you offer me a day old, stale, snack that you've deemed unsuitable for consumption, made obvious by your action of throwing it away?!"
Well, actually I responded by saying, "No thank you."
This leads me to my Smack Down.
The term "TIVOMIKE Smack Down" was coined on my internet radio show, "The Lovin' Life Show" on BlogTalkRadio (to listen to my show, click here). Occasionally I would give a stern rebuke to someone who had committed an act so outlandish that I thought it warranted a special segment on air.
Anyway, that is what I will do now.
Gifts should come from the heart, and should be done to express sincere generosity.
By stating, "Oh, take it, I'm just throwing it away anyway" told me that the "gift" was not truly being given from the heart, but to avoid the slight guilt feeling that accompanies throwing away food.
Bottom Line: The way a gift is offered is equally as important, if not more important, than the gift itself.
Have you ever been offered something half-heartedly? Or have you ever offered something half-heartedly without much thought or consideration? Tell me all about it.
